About
East Melbourne Optometry
&
Low Vision Centre
Dr. Alan Johnston established East Melbourne Optometry &
Low Vision Centre in response to patients’ requests for
specialized, optical low vision care. Although he provided
this care from Highton Eyecare, his optometry practice in
regional Geelong, many older patients from Melbourne and interstate
found this location inconvenient..
East Melbourne Optometry & Low Vision Centre is in the heart
of Melbourne’s ophthalmological precinct, opposite St Vincent’s and
St Vincent’s & Mercy Private Hospitals and adjacent to the
Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. It is equipped with the
latest Nidek® computerized vision testing equipment and
can order complex spectacle lenses remotely through the
computerized Hoyalog® system. It has anterior eye
(slitlamp) and Zeiss® retinal cameras with the facility
to record and store digital images. These are emailed to
patients or their referring practitioners on request, and are
available for comparison with new images recorded at future
consultations.
We direct bill consultation fees for patients with Health Care,
Pensioner Concession or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold
Cards. For other patients we charge the Medicare schedule
consultation fee.
Fees for spectacles and other appliances are not recoverable
from Medicare, although eligible patients with private health
insurance and ancillary cover may be able to claim part
reimbursement.
Staff at East Melbourne Optometry & Low Vision Centre are
happy to discuss any aspect of fees charged for consultations or
ophthalmic goods. |
